D-Rose Budding

"Recently, a photo has been circulating on the Internet which appears to depict
me flashing a gang sign," Rose said in the statement. "This photo of me was
taken at a party I attended in Memphis while I was in school there, and was
meant as a joke ... a bad one, I now admit. I want to emphatically
state, now and forever, that Derrick Rose is anti-gang, anti-drug, and
anti-violence. I am not, nor have I ever been, affiliated with any gang and I
can't speak loudly enough against gang violence, and the things that gangs
represent.

"In posing for this picture, I am guilty of being young,
naive and of using extremely poor judgment. I sincerely apologize to all my fans
for my mistake. I pride myself on being a good citizen, and role model, that
young people can look up to and I want to urge all my young fans to stay away
from gangs and gang-related activities."

Above shows the 20 year old Derrick Rose taking accountability for his actions and owning up for a dumb picture that he took in college. This is clearly just some picture of Rose partying with the boys, posing for a picture. He was not trying to rep any gang in any way. I have seen plenty of photos like this by friends and people on facebook who think nothing of the gestures and actions they are taken. Clearly Rose was thinking like that at the time. Below is a little background on D-Rose.

Rose, 20, grew up in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. He attended Simeon Career Academy, which he led to back-to-back state titles. After helping Memphis to the NCAA championship game in his freshman year, Rose was the No. 1 pick of the 2008 NBA draft by the Bulls. He won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and led the Bulls to the playoffs. Recently Rose was implicated in a recent NCAA scandal involving Memphis, which included an accusation that Rose had someone else take his SAT. School officials met with the NCAA, and have not yet ruled on the case.
